From Work Experience to Collision Career: Evan's Journey

Evan’s path into the collision repair industry started with a simple nudge from a high school teacher. Now a 4th-year panel apprentice at Fortress Kotara, Evan recalls how his work experience at a local smash repair center gave him a taste of the trade, and from that moment, he knew this was the career for him.

With his apprenticeship nearing completion, Evan is already producing quality repairs at the level of a tradesman. We caught up with him to learn more about his experience in the industry, and what drives him forward.

When asked what he enjoys most about the industry, Evan didn’t hesitate: “The people I work with at Fortress Kotara make it worthwhile. There’s no negativity, and everyone takes the time to develop my skills and guide me through the more challenging repairs,” he shared. This supportive environment has not only helped Evan grow as a panel beater but has also fueled his desire to continually learn and improve.

Evan’s commitment to mastering his craft was further demonstrated when he was given the opportunity to travel to Queensland to complete his final practical training with the Panel Trainer. This development experience has only strengthened his passion for the trade.

Grateful for the opportunities and mentorship he’s received, Evan now has his sights set on giving back to the industry. He’s eager to become a mentor for future apprentices, helping guide the next generation of tradespeople. Evan’s journey serves as a shining example of how determination, support, and passion can turn a spark of interest into a thriving career.

At Fortress, we’re proud to see apprentices like Evan not only excel in their roles but also express a desire to contribute back to the industry that’s supported them. Keep up the fantastic work, Evan—you’re truly a role model for future apprentices!
